This is a vast tome on the Christian church. It contains a huge list of names, places and theories which have contributed to the church’s history and each entry has good explanations and cross references with further entries etc.

This is a book which will likely be used if studying church history as part of a professional theology programme. The articles contain the essential information which you may need when reading up on the subject in other texts etc.

I have found this book most useful in my studies and consult it often. Church history can be a difficult subject and sometimes you need a nice “snapshot” of a theory or contributor etc – this book does the job well in this respect.

Good overall short reference of church history, the men, movements, “isims and schisims” through the centuries. Doesn’t go in depth, as it is only one volume, but will prove to be a good starting point or quick reference of general information. Any serious student should have it.
